Flying Squirrels

The other day my wife found what she thought, and I later attempted to confirm, was a deceased Sugar Glider. Since we live in a suburban area of Columbia, I thought this to be a strange incident. Could one of our neighbors have lost a pet? Such a frail creature would surely succomb to the forces of nature (~58 F overnight at this time of year) or one of our 3 (vicious killer) cats.

Further inspection of the corpse led us to discover that it was actually a female southern flying squirrel. I had no idea that flying squirrels were native to this area (of which I have lived for 31 years) since I had never seen one. My wife held a memorial service yesterday with our daughter and our niece. Now she (the squirrel) will always be remembered and hold a place in our hearts, as well as our garden.

e-Society

I tried the MySpace thing. It didn't fly. This is mainly because most of my friends don't use it, so what's the point, right? Not to mention MySpace is pretty hideous as far as design and readability. Who wants to spend X hours of their day on a crappy looking website?

I checked out Facebook yesterday, and it provides what MySpace never can. It's a very clean interface, with quite a bit of functionality. Plus it allows much easier stalking. I'll try it out for a few weeks and see where it goes.

Just getting started...

About a year ago, my new boss (at my new job) told me about a nifty programming language called Ruby. I had heard mention of it on the web before, but had no other knowledge of it. After about 20 minutes on the online tutorial I was hooked. Now, after a year, I need an outlet for my new addiction. I've experimented with Rails and found it to be quite useful (not to mention fun to develop with).

I suppose what I'm driving at is I need something to do. Something to develop. Anything!
